A grassroots non-profit run entirely by dedicated youth volunteers, NOW! inspires and empowers synergistic solutions toward social, economic, and environmental sustainability. Our programs include Act NOW! (sustainability theatre) and NOW What? (sustainability conferences).
The annual Act NOW! National Playwriting Competition (debutting in 2008) is Canada’s only national playwriting competition on sustainability that engages young people across the nation to learn, evaluate, innovate and act with a splash of creativity. Partners include the Playwrights Guild of Canada, UBC Sustainability Office, Terry, Shad Valley, and the Campus Climate Network. There will be two winners for the 2009-2010 competition, one from the high school category and one from the university category. The winning entry from the university category will premiere in Vancouver, directed and acted entirely by young people passionate about theatre, sustainability, and creative solutions! These performances will also pioneer green theatre (sustainability in set and costume design, staging, etc).
